The Major is Back

The Saturday service has returned and I shall do my damndest to maintain the pre holiday profit streak we were on.  Please remember www.justgiving.com/timothy-larden in your winnings – The Majors half marathon effort in aid of a fantastic childrens cancer charity.

Already advised this week is Rip van Winkle who you can get at 11/4 this morning.  Despite the rain softened conditions, I maintain the value in this horse.

With a friend at Ascot I have had a pop at a couple there – What a fantastic days racing to attend!  The 1.55 is one of those big handicaps that Pricewise loves.  My best guess is Simla Sunset whose last two runs look as good as anything else.  The horse has an extra year in its favour and will be exposed to an up and comer but a small stakes bet is advised.  Fontley will enjoy the conditions too and support would be of interest.

Frankel is so well fancied to win the second that it is hard to oppose.  I would duck this one perhaps having a small bet on Klammer at 16s if feeling like an interest was required.

The two horses that boss the market for the Group One Meon Valley at 3.05 have obvious claims but I like the look of Coolmores Together at 8/1.  On breeding this horse is very closely related to Jan Vermeer a group one winner at three who developed late at two and I fancy Together could be cut from the same cloth.  The fact that O’Brien targets this way gives me confidence – Have a bet.

The 3.40 is the second big handicap of the day – My tentative value suggestion is Noble Citizen as long as there is not too much rain.  Side glance could be worth a second look with one of my favourite young jockeys in the boy Probert aboard.

The big one has already been advised and while I do think Mafki should win in these conditions, the value is all about the Rip especially if the ground dries further.

For a big bet, go with WAKE UP CALL (NAP) in the 4.50 at 12s each way.  OK it has a mountain to climb in terms of improvement to win but this beast has gone from strength to strength.

In the last Atlantic Tiger looks the best for me at the bottom of the card and with Hills up top.

The Major suggest loading both cannons for the wake up call and may your wallet be bursting with joy come the time for evening prayer.
