Arsenal v Barcelona – Champions League Tips

The Major is looking forward to the Arsenal v Barca clash tomorrow night and has been thinking on the value.

We have had a rough few days which has raided February profits.  The Major is nothing but relentlessly positive though and once you have the angle you push on through regardless.  Tomorrows racing is a mixed bag and nothing stood out – Plus a breather is probably required from the track…

Value is born from an unmitigating commitment to your view on the pricing regardless of the sheep that stick with the trends that would be better disregarded.  It is better to be in the minority against the tide as long as it is for the right reasons.

The Arsenal Barca game is a classic example.  Too much relevance is being placed on Barca’s previous dominance of Arsenal in Europe.  They were poor last weekend, this is a good time to play them and Arsenal look strong.

On balance, reviewing recent form suggests two value bets for the Major:

1. 8/1 Van Persie First Goalscorer – Stan James

Van Persie is in decent nick and when he plays all of Arsenals attacking threat comes through the Dutchman – Well worth a slice.

2. 41/13 Arsenal to win – Unibet

Better than 3s on Arsenal at home is a tasty price int he Majors view.  They will be fired up for this and with the potential of a Nasri return, get stuck in.

Tuesday 15th Horseracing Tips – Folkestones 4.30, Newcstle 4.10

A quick fire midnight update from the Major who fancies two in the ‘big’ handicaps tomorrow.

Richard Johnson to show us why he is the Champion Jockey bridesmaid

The poor standard of Folkestones’ 4.30 cannot be underestimated.  The likely soft ground and extended two and three quarter mile distance means many won’t complete.

There are a few with first time headgear that might spark improvement.  I have ignored them.

The Gary Moore, Champs de Bleu, ridden by son Gary has no right to win bt I would watch the market on that one, like a hawk; on it’s first handicap start.

The one that has intrigued the Major though is Thompson.  Currently 16/1 with Victor Chandler (14s with Bet 365 and William Hill).  Unpromisingly, a 23lb fall in the weights in just under two years suggests a serious erosion of whatever ability was there.

It is the jockey booking that catches the eye.  Richard Johnson has two rides at Folkestone.  Admittedly in the race preceding this one, he has a little hot pot novice sort but I am still interested enough in him taking the ride on Thompson for a second time.

First time up was Thompsons best ride.  At 16/1 there is enough in the pricing to take the risk that another half decent effort is expected.  Any spark that is ignited of the form from a couple of years back would suffice.

Have a tickle and send me a postcard.

I said there were two I liked.  4.10 Newcastle HEAVY.

If they get the go ahead at Newcastle following a precautionary inspection at 8am then it will be bottomless.

Wild Cane Ridge is the class act in the race even if his star is fading.  At 7/1 he does not rate a bad bet if he can find a going day.

The one that really intrigues the Major though is King Killone.  This horse could be a spent force.  His alarming fall down the handicap certainly suggests he has fallen out of love with the game.

He has had to wait a long time though for connections to run him on soft ground.  I think that could be the key to a better show.  A tentative piece of the action is advised at 16/1 with Victor Chandler each way first two places.

Sweet Dreams.
