Ayr Racing on Monday……

The Major had little time to put up the usual long Saturday post.  The selections ran to mixed standards.  The 18/1 shot ran to a place but Cashelgar was poor, continuing his plunge to new lower depths of ability.

With hope, Ayr will be fine tomorrow as there is a half reasonable National Hunt card for a Monday.

The Major has a couple of fancies to tip up.

Firstly, the 2pm Novice Hurdle.  This looks set to be dominated by those at the head of the market.

Sydney Paget is the confident selection for the win at 2.1.  The horse showed the best form of the field when second to the talented looking Knock a Hand.  That form looks very solid as Knock a Hand has won all three starts since being raced on Heavy ground and is surely festival bound.  Any reproduction of the 3l second which Syndney Paget put in, should be enough to take this.

The rest of the field looks unremarkable and so I am also going to have a bet on the forecast (straight) with Don’t Back Down.  This Gordon Elliot horse has also improved and although looks short on the Sydney Paget form line, looks a solid proposition to plug on for second.

In the 3.10, What a Dream is going to be a hot bet given his resurgence at Wetherby last time out.  He looked the winner until some errors late in the game and this is the Majors problem, I am not sure I want to be on an unproven jumper.

The Majors tip is Alan Swinbanks Proud Times at a general 5/2.  It is entirely feasible that this opening chase mark is quite lenient and although not an obvious chaser on breeding, he has been backed in novice hurdle events, including last time out when beaten favourite.  More has been expected of this horse and the Major is tipping that the improvement comes tomorrow.
