The Major scored profits at all displines (thanks to West Hams successful Olympic bid – updated Feb 11).  I am not quite sure how to handle this because the reality is that those ante post tickets have simply not paid out yet (written 3/2/11).  I shall update this page as the antepost bets pay, or do not.  For now I accept it as an understatement on profit as I have counted all of the advices in the table above.

Returns by Odds Size

Price Stakes Returns Success%
Short – Less than 6/4 16 17.75 110.94%
Mid – From 6/4 to 8/1 33 46.88 142.06%
Long – Greater than 8/1 26 38.09 146.50%
TOTAL 75 102.72 136.96%

We shall keep an eye on this but it seems the Major is better at finding the value in larger prices.

The numbers are too small for a good sample but the Major is recording the bookies who are taking the bets on the advices.  So far, Victor Chandler has taken more of the Majors money than any other bookie.  Totesport have paid out both times the Major has advised them making them the biggest net losers.

Again, the sample is too small to offer strong evidence but
Irish racing returned a 89% profit against selections on British tracks which returned at 39%.

The eagle eyed will spot a few anomolies.  For example, I paid Neptune Collonges out as an each way bet although I did not mention backing it each way in the post.  This is because I intended it as an each way proposition just failed to write it that way.  Equally the antepost issue identified above means returns are understated.

In summary, what a great start to the year.  26% profit is a right result on 81 stakes.  The Major hopes to keep the profits rolling in for February.

There were lessons learned in January.  Stop backing Wigan.  Stop laying Fulham.

The Major may attempt to reduce the number of advised bets in January.  81 bits of advice is probably a few too many and without doubt, some bets were offered without the fullest consideration.

The biggest winner was an each way return on Baycross at 25/1.  The horse won but frustratingly returned at 33/1 and touched 50/1!  My favourite winners were Neptune Collonges, Oscar Whisky and Walkons place.

I hope you all had a good sporting January, let 2011 roll on relentlessly.
